Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society
2012 Meeting

The 2012 GCMAS Meeting is fast approaching!  This year’s meeting will be hosted by Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and held in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the JW Marriott

An exciting scientific program is planned, with nine scientific podium sessions, two poster sessions, and a special session highlighting our six student finalists for the Kevin Granata Young Investigator Award.  The program also includes keynote lectures from two distinguished researchers, tutorials and workshops on a wide range of topics, and two invited case studies in which advanced statistical and biomechanical models are used to guide treatment planning.

Of course, GCMAS meetings involve much more than the scientific program, so it’s also time to start planning your social time in Grand Rapids.  Be sure your travel arrangements put you in town by late afternoon on Wednesday, May 9th for the Welcome Reception.  This year’s reception will take place in the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM), just a short walk from the conference hotel.  The GRAM is the first LEED-certified art museum in the world, and will undoubtably be a spectacular venue for greeting old friends and making new acquaintances.  Our closing banquet will be held the evening of Friday, May 11th at the conference hotel, the JW Marriott.  As always, the banquet will include dinner, live music and dancing.  Make sure you reserve some free time to explore our host city, which features a very walkable and exciting downtown.  Dine at a tiny, ethnic spot or “go big” at one of the city’s notable, lavish restaurants.  Live it up in the entertainment district, which is complete with live music bars, sports bars, brewpubs, comedy clubs, and more.  Grand Rapids is also home to many terrific museums, parks, and shops.

Get Your Gait On!  (GYGO):  Be sure and assemble your team for the GCMAS “Get Your Gait On” (GYGO) 5K Run/Walk being held at 7:00 a.m. Sat. May 12 (Race finishes well before the 8:30 program start.).  This is being held as a "race within a race" as part of Grand Rapids’ huge Fifth Third Riverbank Run (FTRBR) in which tens of thousands of people of all ages, shapes, sizes and fitness levels  from around the world will compete in 25K, 10K and 5K distances.  NOTE:  INDIVIDUAL (NOT TEAM) REGISTRATION FOR THE FTRBR IS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO TAKE PART IN THE GCMAS GYGO.  And, while possible to register for the FTRBR up until Fri. afternoon May 11, doing so in advance here will save you a few bucks over waiting til you arrive in G.R.  For more information about the GCMAS GYGO, see the Activities page of the conference website.  Recognition will be given to GCMAS participants in various fun categories at our meeting’s regular awards ceremony being held later that day at 12:30 p.m.  Please e-mail here to let us know you plan to participate.  Thanks!

We look forward to seeing you there!
